Sesame Street: "Avenue Q" 30T

Granted, a nine months delay is quite a lot and yeah, I am ashamed. But now, at last week held the German premiere in St. Gallen, I let myself be carried away to a critique of "Avenue Q".

Two friends and I have visited this musical last year during our vacation in London, not knowing that the show would be closed after five-year term in October. Very sad, I would like to leave the next went in again.

short to action: Princeton has his college degree in his pocket and is desperately seeking affordable accommodation. He ends up at some point in the Avenue Q - everything looks a little shabby, but people seem to be nice, but they have not got a clue what they do with their lives as he did. Fits perfectly so. There is the somewhat bumbling landlord Brian and his feisty girlfriend Chinese Christmas Eve, the former child star Gary Coleman, Rod and Nicky, who share an apartment, and ... Kate Monster, in which Princeton immediately in love. Among the various complications following contribute two "Bad Idea Bears" and the glamorous Lucy T. Slut. Chaos, stupid dreams, a wedding, sex, accidental injury, Scientology - in Avenue Q will find it all. And sometimes good friends.

This musical demands a lot from the cast really. There are only three human roles: Brian, Christmas Eve and Gary Coleman, all other actors play at least two dolls. And that's real work - such as changing sometimes within seconds from one to the other doll, as the cast their votes in accordance with have to adapt immediately and we considered it as a spectator as absolutely credible, that's impressive! In addition, they have not only the dolls are alive, but the emotions reflected in their facial expressions and body posture. Pure entertainment.

is particularly glaring example of the difference between Kate Monster (cute shy, soft voice) and Lucy T. Slut (erotically breathy voice, lewd messages), which are both played by the same actress (from when we visited the understudy Rachel Jerram, great).
whole large class was Paul Spicer as Princeton and Rod - speak to you immediately knew by its nature, what character he played straight; Rod has always had a slightly uptight touch in his voice, but he is also the one who definitely, absolutely one hundred percent perfect is not at all gay. Super
were Jacqueline Tate and Siôn Lloyd Christmas Eve and Brian, absolutely adorable and damn funny. The audience favorite of the human characters, however, was clearly Gary Coleman, played by Delroy Atkinson. He was simply super nice, has some of the best Srpüche and to another one of the most memorable songs ("You can be as loud as the hell you want [when you're making love]" including dolls, have wild sex ... you simply have to see yourself, it was screamingly funny).
The puppet characters Tom Parsons acknowledged as Nicky / Trekkie Monster (Kate's brother) at the most from. His facial expression was just hilarious, but then he has gotten with Trekkie also the craziest / most iconic figure. Trekkie is a huge doll, and it always had to join a second performer to move them. It consists only of skin and leaves the room as not so good, but sitting all day at the computer. And he issued his sister (and the audience, oh yes!) A lesson: "The internet is for porn". As he has brought over that later on the front edge of the stage with a standing look at the audience, who said very clearly: "I know what you all for horny guy are! "* g * The applause did not stop more ...

Anyway, all the characters are wonderful. compounded by the Bad Idea Bears, Princeton constantly urge to get drunk or Kate flat and down ... it looks like the Bears * g * Then the show is still alive of really nice ideas (an oversized Kate in a nightmare;. screens that support now and then certain places visually, the Lucy T. Sluts near-death experience, the running people, to to beg for money for Kate's school ...), has a very functional, but lovingly crafted stage set ... and is just really pretty bad. * g * The characters are sometimes clearly laid out on the Sesame Street, for example, reminds Trekkie to the Cookie Monster, but it will be particularly apparent when Nicky and Rod, the Bert and Ernie really in other colors.

And then the songs! The really common to them is that they are damn catchy! Only they can not sing loudly because they have such beautiful songs like "The internet is for porn", "Everyone's a little bit racist", "It sucks to be me" or "If you were gay" (sooooo grand-funny !). Then use the above embarrassing for the character "My grildfriend who lives in Canada, and one of the most entertaining songs for us," Schadenfreude. " Yes, in English there is no word for schadenfreude, and it is then accordingly declares: "Schadenfreude is German and means taking pleasure in the misery of others". - "Yes, that's very German." * G * Yes, we have mitgelacht loud - after all, were Chinese, African-Americans, Jews, and I still do not know who pulled everything as politically incorrect his leg. Beside us were two American girls who were probably surprised, first, that we see the fun were (before the start of the show we had indeed maintained in German), and in general it great thought, as the actors constantly "Fuck" and "Shit" said. * G * Yeah, that free-spirited Europe ... ;)

The hall was sold out and the atmosphere was great, like at a party. So its a great musical visit the site.

I hope that the German version is just as great, and that the translation is successful, it should not have been with all the songs so easily. But St. Gallen is indeed quite well known for quality, so I'm making because no major worries.

All in all a great, entertaining show - if you can do with the song titles and not something slightly incorrect humor immediately goes up the wall, which is "Avenue Q" love!
I hope that we will come here soon in Germany to enjoy this musical.
